Prevention of Trafficking Project
As an organization, CLPOA is focusing on key vulnerabilities of children and young people that can lead to trafficking by empowering young people, aged between 12-18 yrs., with the knowledge, information and skills to address their own vulnerabilities. As a preventive measure, CLPOAplans to develop a sustainable and community–owned prevention mechanism targeting vulnerabilities that lead to trafficking in 30 Gram Sansads under Kadambagachi Gram Panchayet of Barasat Block I, North 24 Parganas. The project is supported by British Asian Trust.
Activists:
- 369 weekly sessions held with Children Collective members on Child Protection issues in their respective Gram Sansad.
- 15 Community meetings conducted as local initiative to mitigate local problems.
- 64 monthly meetings conducted with Youth Core Group Leaderson Community Development.
- 220 vulnerable casesidentified during Tracking of Vulnerable Children along with the Children Collective.
- 576individuals identified from the vulnerable familiesfor linking them with relevant livelihood schemes and livelihood opportunities.
- Facilitated 36 dropout children for re-enrolment at their neighbourhood school. Another 42 irregular children have been provided with some counselling support and it resulted in regular attendance of those children.
- Meetings held between Parent Leaders, Core Group Leaders, CBI representatives and Local Administration on child protection issues across all the 30 Gram Sansads.
- Monthly meeting of VLCPC held in 30 Gram Sansads.
- Convergence meeting held amongYouth Core Group, VLCPC Core Group and CBI Core Group on identifying, prioritizing and resolving child protection cases in their respective communities.
- 64 Community sensitization programmes held on Gender Equality, Child Protection, Safe Migration, Proper use of Technology and Realistic Aspiration by Youth Core Group members across all 30 Gram Sansads
- 3 Capacity building trainings held for Project Staff on Counselling, Child Cabinet and Vulnerability Mapping.
- 7 meetings (Anudip Foundation – 6, Magic Bus Foundation-1) held for linking with existing career opportunities.
- 124 FGDsheld with Parent Leaders on their roles and responsibility in VLCPC, POCSO Act, VLAP, Govt. Schemes and Child Protection across all the 30 Gram Sansads.
- 2 trainingsorganised on case management and evidence building with 32 youth core group.
- 3 days'workshop held on safe and responsible sexual behaviour with Youth Core Group members.
- 132 aspirant youths participated at the Career Mela heldwith 7 leading Skills Development Institutesatthe playground of Milan Sangha Club, Kadambagachi, Barasat.
- 2 VLAP training held at Panchayat premises with VLCPC members of 30Gram Sansads
- Vulnerability mapping exercise conducted and map of all 30 Gram Sansads prepared.
- Development of Manual on Safe and responsible Sexual behaviour.
Achievements:
- Gram Panchayat invited CLPOA representatives for attending the Children's Day celebration.
- In the new VLCPC committee, the youth collective members have been included as member in 23 Gram Sansads( out of 30 Sansads ).
- Tap water installed by community mothers at Kazirhait-25 Gram Sansad. This initiative was taken by the community people, SHG members and Gram Sansad members.
- The Anwesha Clinic Counsellor visited different Sansads to share information about their work and the means to access such services.
- School teachers conducted home visits together with VLCPC members and CLPOA representatives for new admission of the children.
- 1 child marriage case has been resolved by the Core Group along with re-enrolment of his dropout friend in school as well.
- 1 Child marriage case resolved by VLCPC Members.
- School teachers suggested to organise a meeting with Moulavi's for prevention of child marriage.
- 4 youth collective members re-admitted 7 drop out children in schools.
- VBD took an initiative to clean the community so the VCT (Vector Control TEAM) actively worked in areas to collect the garbage, clean the drainage system.
- 1 elopement case rescued by the help of community persons and families.
- VBD collected data for those who are not benefited from government schemes and submit the data in Gram Panchayat.
- One core group member victimized by eve teasing and fought against it, later shared her stories in VLCPC meeting and now she is studying in regular school.
- Community women collected token money from community persons for installation of drinking tap water.
- Sansad members rescued the elopement case with the help of VLCPC members.
CHILDLINE:
CHILDLINE - the national, toll free, 24 hours emergency telephone helpline for children in need of care and protection completed another eventful year. This year, CHILDLINE Kolkata intervened 1024 cases of various nature like shelter, medical, repatriation, rescue, missing, child abuse, child trafficking, child marriage etc. CLPOA continues to function as Nodal Organization of Kolkata CHILDLINE since 1999.
Activities :
- Held public awareness programmes in 18 ICDS Centers located at South and North Kolkata areas
- Organized 24 School awareness programmes to orient children on 1098 in Government aided/Government Sponsored Schools
- Conducted 27 Open Houses to orient local people on 1098 in Kolkata
- Held Child Friendly meeting with children at Sealdah Railway Station
- Awareness during all big festivals like Durga Puja, Id, Christmas day etc.
